Emface
EMFACE is designed for non-invasive face lifting and wrinkle reduction by targeting all facial layers: skin, connective tissue network, and facial muscles. It utilizes both synchronized radiofrequency (RF) and high intensity focused electrical stimulation (HIFES) technologies simultaneously. Heating the facial tissue to effective temperatures and HIFES stimulation of only specific facial muscles results in a combined effect that causes textural changes to the skin, smoothing, wrinkle reduction, facial repositioning, and an overall lifting effect.
Four sessions are recommended, with 2-14 days between each session. The treatment length is about 20 minutes. You may need additional treatments depending on the severity of your condition.
Clinical studies show 37% wrinkle reduction, 23% more lift, 30% increase in muscle tone and 129% increase in elastin with 4 treatments. You begin to feel tangible results right after the treatments. Optimal results are usually reported in 90 days after the last session and continue to improve for several weeks following the treatment.
What does the treatment feel like?
The treatment does not require anesthesia. During the application, you will feel muscle contractions and a heating sensation in the treated area. You should feel comfortable heat, but never feel an unpleasant burning or pain sensation during the treatment. There is no downtime, and you can return to your normal activities following your treatment.
On the day of treatment, you should be well hydrated. The cheeks should be free from facial hair. Beards should be shaved on the day of treatment, prior to your appointment. You will be asked to remove all metallic accessories and electronic devices.
Are there any contraindications?
▪ Metal implants of the head and spine or in the treatment area
▪ Active implanted devices which includes, but is not limited to pacemakers, defibrillators, cochlear implants, or diabetic pumps. If you have had one of these implanted devices in the past and the device has been removed, it is very important to let your treatment provider know.
▪ Pregnancy or breastfeeding
▪ Permanent fillers like silicone or Artefill/Bellafill in the desired treatment area
▪ Radiation therapy and chemotherapy in the treatment area, in the past 6 months
▪ Poor healing and unhealed wounds in the treatment area
▪ Metal implants near treated area or neutral electrode
If you have any of these contraindications, you will not be a candidate for EMFACE. Although not a contradiction, we prefer you wait three months after dermal fillers including Sculptra. Our preferred protocol is to perform EMFACE treatments prior to dermal fillers.
Are there any risks or possible side effects?
The side effects may include but are not limited to erythema, mild swelling, heating sensation, dry skin, temporary damage to natural skin texture (crust, blister, and burn), muscular pain, temporary muscle spasms. The side effects listed here are examples and do not make up an exhaustive list; every person is different, and there is no guarantee that more severe side effects will not occur.

Modern Dermatology requires a credit card for scheduling of all aesthetic appointments (except Botox/Dysport/Jeuveau). We will remind you of your appointment 1 week prior in case you need to cancel or reschedule. Appointments broken without 48 business hours of notice will be charged a $250.00 cancellation fee for the time we reserved for you.
